About the Episode

Host Carrie speaks with Erin Fields about spotting and managing imposter syndrome. Erin shares her personal journey of overcoming self-doubt as a driven achiever and offers practical strategies to challenge perfectionism, celebrate wins, and lean on supportive networks. This episode is a must-listen for leaders striving to silence self-doubt and find fulfillment in their work.

Episode Summary

How can you spot imposter syndrome in yourself?

Erin Fields reflects on how she identifies imposter syndrome by noticing patterns of self-imposed pressure. As a natural achiever, Erin sets high expectations for herself, which can trigger feelings of inadequacy. She emphasizes that imposter syndrome often stems from internalized fears or doubts, rather than objective realities.

To combat these narratives, Erin recommends pausing to evaluate what’s genuinely expected and asking yourself: Would I hold others to this same standard? This mindset shift allows leaders to approach their roles with clarity and self-compassion.

What strategies help manage imposter syndrome?

Erin shares actionable strategies for navigating imposter syndrome:

  1. Challenge self-doubt: When the inner critic arises, Erin consciously reminds herself of her qualifications and achievements. This helps her focus on facts rather than fears.
  2. Celebrate small wins: Instead of dismissing minor achievements, Erin now recognizes their significance in building confidence. Celebrating daily successes fosters a sense of progress and fulfillment.
  3. Reframe perfectionism: By shifting her mindset from striving for perfection to embracing growth, Erin has found it easier to manage expectations and enjoy her work.

These practices empower Erin to confront imposter syndrome proactively and maintain a healthier outlook.

Why is a support system essential?

For Erin, the backing of her team at Enrollify has been a game-changer in managing self-doubt. Trusted colleagues provide encouragement and affirm her abilities when doubt creeps in. She emphasizes the value of surrounding yourself with people who genuinely want to see you succeed.

Erin also highlights the importance of advocating for yourself. She reminds leaders that they’ve earned their positions through hard work and merit. Leaning into this truth, combined with a supportive network, creates a foundation for overcoming imposter syndrome and thriving in your career.
